Your contributions enrich instruction and provide hands-on learning experience for the students. Volunteers with basic computer skills are needed to tutor people with disabilities as part of a special program offered at the Special Needs Library in Bethesda. The Computer Assisted Literacy in Libraries (CALL) program provides people with disabilities access to adaptive computers; assists in improving vocabulary, reading and writing; provides access to the Internet and provides e-mail access. The largest public, non-profit food and nutrition education resource in the DC metro area, our organization can offer a number of different and engaging volunteer opportunities for your members. Volunteers primarily 55+ are matched to a family who has a child with a disability, special need, or chronic medical condition. Volunteers visit the children and family to offer extra support and spend time with the child with the disability and maybe even their siblings who often feel neglected. Also if volunteers want to they can accompany the family to doctor's appointments as they can often be overwhelming.
