The Capitol View Park Citizens Association invites you to……

“An Oral History of Blacks in and around Capitol View Park”

Lyttonsville local Historian, Charlotte Coffield and others will share memories and stories of the lives and contributions of blacks in Capitol View Park and neighboring communities.  Local artifacts and memorabilia will also be on display.

This casual and informative evening will take place

CVPCA testimony on MoCo Redistricting

CVPCA's Susan Brady testifies on November 1 before a Montgomery County Council hearing on the recommendations of the Redistricting Commission (http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/csltmpl.asp?url=/content/council/ondemand/index.asp )
 
Brady's testimony requested that Capitol View Park be designated part of the new District 1 to continue our affiliation with Kensington.

DESIGN-A-SIGN CONTEST 
Celebrate Capitol View Park's 125th Anniversary
Design a Sign for the Main Entrances to Capitol View Park**
 
Contest Rules:
 
  • Entrants must be current residents of Capitol View Park (but not required to be dues-paying members of CVPCA).
  • Entrants must be at lease 18 years old, but a parent or guardian can submit a design for someone under 18.
  • Only one entry per person.
  • The design must convert easily into production mode and comply with all county requirements.  (The CVPCA Board reserves the right to modify sign designs to meet any requirements).
  • Submit hard copy to Bob Biersner at 9914 Capitol View Avenue (leave on bench at front door if not home).
  • Submit electronically to: cvpcacommunications@gmail.com
  • Deadline: Friday, October 7, 2011
  • Prize: $50.00

Oakland Terrace: Kindergarten Open House Information

Parent Meetings for Incoming Students
 
Open House dates for parents who will be new to Oakland Terrace will be held from 9:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. on the following Thursdays:  


January 20  
February 3  
February 17  
March 3
March 24
April 7   
 
The Open Houses will be held at the Oakland Terrace Elementary School Satellite
Campus at Sligo Middle School, 1401 Dennis Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20902.   
 
The purpose of the meetings is to give insight into the academic and social aspects of
Oakland Terrace Elementary School.  The Open Houses include an opportunity to meet
Mrs. Cheryl Pulliam, Principal, and members of her staff, a presentation about the
instructional program, and a school tour of the satellite campus. Tours of the main
campus will be available immediately following each Open House session.
 
If you know of a family with a kindergarten aged child (five years old by September 1,
2011), please share this information and encourage them to call the Oakland Terrace
school office at 301-929-2161 to make an appointment to attend one of the Open Houses.  
The size of the group is limited so please call ahead to sign up for the date you prefer.   
 
NOTE:  These meetings are designed to give NEW Oakland Terrace Elementary School
parents an opportunity to get to know the school, administrators and staff.   
 
Please join Mrs. Pulliam and her staff to find out about Oakland Terrace!
